The Invisible Shroud
My initial practice employing draperies came about as an investigation into ancient forms of dressing in South Asia like the free flowing sari and dhoti and the paradoxical powers of these seemingly benign fabrics coupled with the patriarchal norms I witnessed around me.
With time the work became more introspective and the realization of cultural and physical boundaries manifested themselves through ornate borders found in holy text and Islamic architectural motifs.
