About

Masuma’s practice explores pivotal points in recent South Asian history with a focus on Pakistan.

Informed by oral accounts her artworks counter state fed narratives and unilateral textbook versions of history by addressing the psychological and sociological undercurrents of strife and forced migrations, investigating their impact on languages, dress codes, religion and mindsets.

She uses garments and textiles to investigate regional cultural and political scenarios as they possess the ability to narrate events in culturally relevant contexts. Khwaja creates textile collages, embroiders and paints to construct narratives that though rooted in the local context, hold universal relevance.

Masuma lives and works in Karachi Pakistan
